The federal government of Mexico has decided reintroduce the subsidy to the Special Tax on Production and Services (IEPS) for regular gasoline, while premium gasoline and diesel continue without this tax benefit.
According to what was published in the Official Gazette of the Federation (DOF) this Friday, during the week of June 15 to 21each liter of regular gasoline purchased in the country will enjoy a 1.58% subsidy.
This support implies that the price per liter of regular gasoline, known as Magnawill be 6.0779 pesos, compared to the 6.17 pesos that it would cost without the subsidy.
This adjustment puts an end to a month in which no subsidies were applied to this type of fueloffering slight relief to consumers.
By contrast, The price per liter of premium gasoline and diesel will remain unchangedbeing 5.2146 and 6.7865 pesos respectively, since these fuels will not receive the fiscal stimulus during the same period.
Fiscal stimulus for premium gasoline has been absent for eight straight months, meaning consumers have paid the price. full tax of 5.2 pesos per liter this year.
Similarly, diesel will not receive the fiscal stimulus for the eighth consecutive weekforcing transporters to pay the entire IEPS, which amounts to 6.7 pesos for each liter.
The last time fiscal stimulus for diesel was provided was in the week of April 20-26, according to official records from the Ministry of Finance and Public Credit (SHCP).
These fiscal decisions reflect a selective subsidy policy that seeks balance the tax burden between different types of fuelswhile trying to mitigate the impact on the economy of regular gasoline consumers.
However, the no subsidies for premium gasoline and diesel continues to be a point of concern for users who depend on these fuels, both for private vehicles and for cargo transportation.
