The tool includes the “Sources” button. When selected, a sidebar is displayed on the screen with a list of the news and publications that were used as a reference to respond to a request. ChatGPT also gained the ability to deliver up-to-date information with charts and visuals on the weather, stock market, sporting events, news and maps.
The new search resource is supported in versions for Android, iOS, macOS, Windows and web by ChatGPT. It is available starting today for plan subscribers Plus and for people who signed up for the SearchGPT waitlist. OpenAI has said the feature will roll out to free, enterprise, and educational users in the coming weeks.
OpenAI goes after Google’s market share
OpenAI just closed a competitive gap with Microsoft Copilot and Google Gemini. Both AI platforms have been offering real-time insights for some time. Until this update, ChatGPT could only deliver results based on data available from 2021 to 2023.
Analysts suggest the launch of the new search feature has the potential to dent Google’s business. The big tech of Mountain View controls about 90% of internet searches. The position has allowed it to dominate search engine advertising revenue. Despite this, some research has indicated that the quality of Google Search search results has drastically reduced in recent years. They indicate that the company has prioritized short-term advertising profits over the user experience. In contrast, OpenAI has no immediate plans to integrate advertising into ChatGPT Search.
The firm led by Altman could gain a privileged place in the search segment on-line. At the end of 2023, compared to 2022, Google Search traffic decreased 0.4%, while Bard (also Google), Bing, and ChatGPT traffic increased 2, 8, and 4%, respectively. Although the numbers favor the creator of ChatGPT, it is not yet clear how she will capitalize on her new tool or the measures she will take to sustain her operation. AI search engines are considerably more expensive to maintain than traditional search engines.
