The process against the number one in the world golf ranking, the American Scottie Scheffler, will come to an end very soon: All charges against him after being arrested on May 17, before the second round of the PGA Championship, will be dropped.
Scheffler was due to appear before a judge for arraignment on May 21 and the hearing was postponed to June 3.
However, Jefferson County Prosecutor Mike O’Connell filed a motion on Wednesday to dismiss all charges against the 27-year-old golfer, recent Augusta Masters champion.
Why was Scottie Scheffler arrested?
“I observed that a vehicle that was traveling in the opposite lanes was heading towards me. I stopped the driver and warned him that he could not continue because of the bus. He “Demanded that I let him pass and continued ahead against my instructions. The driver dragged me and knocked me down. “I then proceeded to stop the driver,” says the report he filed.
Scheffler always spoke of the incident as “a big misunderstanding,” and the prosecutor confirmed the golfer’s theory: O’Connell said that what he stated was “corroborated by the evidence.”
Scheffler finished in eighth place in the PGA Championship, which was won by his compatriot Xander Schauffele. Following that tournament, he finished second in the Charles Schwab Challenge, which was marked by the tragic death of Grayson Murray.
