The Italian first division soccer team CFC Genoa has found a successor for the dismissed coach Alberto Gilardino. Frenchman Patrick Vieira will take over for the 2006 world champion, the club announced on Wednesday. The 48-year-old, who played for Arsenal FC and the French national team among others, is scheduled to lead his first training session in Genoa this afternoon. He most recently worked at Racing Strasbourg; the 1998 world champion’s contract was terminated by mutual agreement in July. On Tuesday, Genoa announced its separation from Gilardino. The club, where star striker Mario Balotelli has been under contract for three weeks, is ranked 17th in Serie A after twelve match days.
