Intesa Sanpaolo, Gros-Pietro speaks
“The government has a problem, an entirely Italian one: the public debt that will have to be addressed. He is approaching it with great awareness”“I believe that Fitto has proven to be an effective minister.” With these words, Gian Maria Gros-Pietro, president of Intesa Sanpaolo, answers questions from affaritaliani.it during the first day of the Ambrosetti Forum in Cernobbio.
Gros-Pietro welcomes the Italian government’s movesalthough “in general there is great uncertainty. Orban says that we must have a common defense, but not a common foreign policy.”
As for the increase in tax revenue for the State, the president of Intesa explains: “Banks have increased their revenues enormously. In 2023, 8.54 billion in taxes, a progression that corresponds to the increase in profits for banks, were less than 4 billion three years earlier”.
And the rate cut? Everyone expects the ECB to make the cut, we are positive, there are problems, but Italy is doing well”. On the words of the President of the Republic who he defined the thermometer of the markets’ perception of a country’s reliability as “questionable”, Gros-Pietro reflects: “Markets do not have intentions, each operator reasons according to his needs and requirements”.
