Cenk Gönen case: Malaga awaits its resolution for this month and appeals for Jony

Málaga hopes that the famous ‘Cenk Gönen case’ will be resolved during this same month of February. Everything depends on the speed with which the TAS (Tribunal Arbitral du Sport for its acronym in French) makes a final decision to determine whether or not Malaga has to pay the 780,000 euros to the Turkish plus another 80,000 in interest. José María Muñoz, the judicial administrator, and his entire work team are still pending on this complicated front. These types of cumbersome issues can be settled at any time. The club hopes that soon but… the same goes on over time. We will have to be careful.

This matter continues to be a considerable nuisance for Malaga. As will be remembered, the Malaguista exporter filed a complaint that, after being considered by FIFA, was resolved with a sanction for the club, three periods without making signings, until the summer of 2023.

So the club made two moves. In the first place, it reached an agreement with the complainant so that, in exchange for withdrawing the complaint, it would pay him part of the money claimed; secondly, he filed an appeal with the CAS based in Lausanne (Switzerland). FIFA unblocked the punishment and Malaga was able to sign to Vadillo and Febas. He then presented the aforementioned appeal where Málaga explains precisely that it was Cengo (name by which he was known) who made the unilateral decision to terminate the remaining year of his contract and not the other way around.

The Ottoman was signed by Málaga in the 2017-18 season as part of a convoluted operation aimed at getting rid of Kameni that ended up at Tranzosport from Turkey. He paid 80,000 euros to Galatasaray and in two seasons he only participated in four friendlies where he was catastrophic. He hardly participated in the training between strange injuries and disappearances to his country derived from a military service that he had to fulfill. One of the most disastrous signings in the history of Malaga, which continues to cause problems.

The reality is that Malaga has not spent all the money in the winter market. In fact, he refused to incorporate a central defender because the operation was going up to 500,000 euros, thinking about the future… or in the event that the CAS confirms the sanction, which would be quite a slap in the face. And more if the club did not have resources.

Resource by Jony

On the other hand, Malaga has filed an appeal following the court decision to dismiss the club’s lawsuit against Jony and Lazio for breach of contractor. This was explained in Diario Sur. The club claimed 12 million euros for understanding that the footballer went to the Italian team under a release clause in case of relegation that was only valid for Spanish football and not abroad. The topic is still open.
