On the morning of Thursday, May 23, A woman suffered an accident on Line 12 of the Mexico City Metroremaining trapped between a train and the platform at Calle 11 station.
This rather unique incident, which put one of the woman’s lower extremities at risk, caused a rapid mobilization of security personnel and a power outage to facilitate the rescue.
According to initial reports, the incident occurred around 8:00 am. Images captured at the scene show the woman visibly distressed, being assisted by Metro staff.
Several passengers got off the train to understand the cause of the interruption of the service they took to their destination, most of them for their school or work, and to offer their help.
The incident generated significant delays throughout Line 12, affecting numerous users in the middle of rush hour. The interruption of service complicated the travel of thousands of people heading to work.
They cut power for rescue
In an official statement, the Metro Collective Transportation System (STC) reported the need to cut off electricity on the also called Gold Line to free the woman and allow her to receive medical attention.
“Good morning. The circulation of trains on Line 12 is speeded up, after a power outage to help a person who got his foot stuck, and who is assessed by Industrial Safety and Hygiene personnel. Please respect the yellow safety line and follow the instructions of the system personnel,” the Metro published on its social networks.
So far, no detailed information has been given about the woman’s health or the exact circumstances that caused her leg to become trapped in the space between the train and the platform.
Metro authorities are carrying out an exhaustive investigation to clarify the facts and avoid future similar accidents.
