It's no secret that game development costs today are high. In this way, many companies have found it necessary to include microtransactions in order to increase their profits. However, not all companies are in favor of this, especially when we talk about a single player title. One of these is CD Project Redwho assures that they will not include microtransactions in their games.
In a recent interview, Piotr Nielubowicz, CFO of CD Projekt Red, was questioned about the possibility of seeing microtransactions in future games from the studio. In his talk, Nielubowicz made it clear that they do not plan to include this type of monetization in their single player games. This is what he commented:
“We see no place for microtransactions in the case of single-player games.
We do not exclude that we will use this solution in the future in the case of multiplayer projects.”
Now, This does not mean that the company is not considering this element. Although they have made it clear that their next single-player titles, such as the next installment of The Witcher, will not have microtransactions, they do not close the door on this possibility for multiplayer projects, such as Project Sirius, which is in development right now.
Even though Project Sirius restarted development early last year, Nielubowicz confirmed in the interview that it will continue to have multiplayer components. He also clarifies that the title is being treated as an “AAA project.” We only have to see what will happen with the studio and its projects in the future. On related topics, the direct sequel to The Witcher 3 It is already in development. Likewise, sales of Phantom Liberty.
Editor's Note:
This makes perfect sense. A multiplayer game doesn't just go on sale and that's it. It requires constant support from developers and active servers. Thus, constant monetization is necessary to pay the bills. However, a single-player title does not require this.
