Internacional, Grêmio and Juventude will be able to use CTs and stadiums in Flamengo, Palmeiras and São Paulo for training and accommodation
A CBF (Brazilian Football Confederation) postponed the games of teams from Rio Grande do Sul for 20 days. The request was made by Internacional, Grêmio and Juventude due to the rains and floods in the State. The period runs until May 27th.
The postponed matches are from the men’s Brazilian Championship (Series A, C and D) and the women’s. In a note, the confederation expressed solidarity with the population of Rio Grande do Sul and stated that the focus is on serving “immediate and emergency needs”.
“The CBF, as the organizing entity of national competitions, and attentive to its institutional functions, as well as the humanitarian effort that the moment demands, reaffirms its unrestricted support to the authorities so that all measures and actions are adopted for the benefit of the population of Rio Grande do Sul , whose help is the top priority”says in a statement (read the full text below).
With the rains that hit Rio Grande do Sul, including the capital Porto Alegre, Internacional’s Beira-Rio stadium and the Grêmio Arena were completely flooded. On Monday (May 6, 2024), the Guaíba river, which flows through the city, reached 5.28 and also affected the CT (Training Center) of the 2 teams.
Salgado Filho Airport was also flooded and is closed. Flights were suspended indefinitely on Monday (May 6) and there is no forecast for the resumption of operations, according to concessionaire Fraport.
CLUBS PROVIDE CTS
Flamengo, São Paulo and Palmeiras made their Training Centers available to teams from Rio Grande do Sul. The three announced the measure through social media and expressed solidarity with the tragedy.
Here are the spaces provided by each of the clubs:
- Flamengo: CT George Helal, Ninho do Urubu;
- Palmeiras: Football Academy, Arena Barueri and Allianz Parque; It is
- São Paulo: CT de Cotia and MorumBIS.
