The 36-year-old British sprinter, now recovering from a bad crash at the Six Days in Ghent, will thus be able to assault the record of victories (34) on the Tour he shares with Merckx
Mark Cavendish will renew for one year with his current team, Quick Step. Team manager Patrick Lefevere anticipated this, announcing that the agreement is now only signed. The 36-year-old British sprinter, 156 career successes and 2011 world champion, this year has returned strongly on the scene after the four victories in the Tour de France that made him join Eddy Merckx as multiple winner (34 notches) at the Grande Boucle where he was also got the green jersey. “He will run another season in our team – the words of Lefevere -, he will be with us already in the next days in training camp in Calpe. He will arrive in Spain by car as he cannot fly yet due to his injuries ”. Cavendish, in fact, is still recovering after the very bad fall at the Six Days in Ghent ten days ago in which he sustained the fracture of two ribs and a pneumothorax. But now he is recovering and will be able to return to the team that relaunched him a year ago: Mark was practically without a team before the “Wolfpack” hugged him again. The first victory came in the Tour of Turkey, after more than three years of fasting, and from there he laid the foundations for a return to the greats.
