Catalina Usme She has lived, in more than 12 years of her career, the entire evolution of women's soccer in Colombia. At some point, when things were not progressing, her brother, Andrés, suggested that she quit sports and start studying. Energetic and firm, as in every step of her life, Catalina replied: “I will have my whole life to study. For football, no,” she told him. And it hasn't gone badly for her.
Catalina is today the great symbol of Colombian women's football, for everything she has shown and her contribution to the National Team.
Her present is in the Mexican league, because after leaving América she is a new player for Pachuca.
Usme's drama
Usme, in an interview with the program Los Informantes, recounted aspects of his life and career.
One of the most emotional fragments was his story about an episode he experienced on the field, where he almost died.
“I had an event, with the Colombian National Team, in Chile, where they had to revive me on the field. I fell down from an elbow to the head and lost consciousness. I remember that, at that time, the doctor said that I had died, but it revived me immediately,” Catalina said.
Then, he remembered his subsequent talk with his mother. “When I get home, I tell my mom, we show her, anyway. We started talking about life and I told her: 'Look, mom, I want you to have one thing clear; The day I die, if it happens to me on a court, bury me happy because that is the meaning that I died happy, doing what I like and love.”
Usme is the all-time top scorer in the women's Copa Libertadores, with 31 goals (19 with Formas Íntimas, 4 with Santa Fe and 8 with América) and a figure in the National Team. Now she is getting ready to achieve new achievements with Pachuca.
