Alonso again
Qatar, Texas, France and now Catalonia: the first part of the World Cup continues with victories David Alonsoprotagonist on the Barcelona circuit in a race characterized by overtaking and fast laps signed by the CFMoto rider, who thanks to this success leaps at the top of the Drivers’ standings overtaking Daniel Holgado, 6th despite a good start and a constant fight in the podium area.
Race report
An absolutely thrilling start, with Ortolà who, in defending his pole position, moved to the right, keeping the entire chasing group behind him. A big risk taken in particular by Rueda and Furusato, who put their wheels on the grass in the middle of the straight and with Muñoz in turn very aggressive at the first braking point in moving Alonso towards the outside. All actions that did nothing but favor Holgado, who took advantage of the chaos at the start to climb from ninth to second position. From the 3rd lap onwards, also thanks to the double long lap penalty served by Muñoz and Furusato, the race developed with continuous attacks and repeated overtaking between Veijer, Alonso, Ortolà, Holgado, Rueda and, above all, a excellent Luca Lunetta. The Italian from the SIC58 team struggled for a long time in the top five, then settling for a 7th place finish which still guaranteed him the first points. An exciting comeback shared with his teammate Filippo Farioli, 9th at the finish line after starting from 20th position and with a result that also guarantees the latter his first world championship points. A race therefore full of spectacle and unpredictability, in classic Moto3 style, with the ranking emerging only in the last two laps: while Alonso flew towards the decisive victory also for the championship leadership, behind him Ortolà and Rueda they completed a Spanish-speaking podium, with the latter author of an overtaking on Veijer in the very last lap.
