This year, the official continuation of the Linna celebrations was Hotel Kämp. Guests started arriving at around midnight – at the same time as the cameras turned off and the party was silenced from the media.
Nine in the evening at the time, there were more media representatives in the lobby of Hotel Kämpi than actual party guests.
Singer-composer Pepe Willberg was able to freely exchange information with journalists in the hotel’s restaurant, where the tourists sitting had no idea what kind of guests were expected on the spot.
Willberg himself, who participated in Linna’s celebrations several times both as a guest and as a performer, did not dig Linna’s hum. According to Willberg, the president’s reception has often had a mixed atmosphere. This year, Willberg spent Independence Day recovering from the previous night’s party and ironing the curtains.
To the place the deputy commissioner from Helsinki also arrived Seida Sohrabi (cook). Sohrabi came to Kämp’s continuations from the Helsinki convention’s own celebrations, where speeches and singing had been made.
Sohrabi was awarded the silver lion of the coalition at the party. Sohrabi believes that the badge of merit was given to him for 14 years of work in the assembly.
“I have brought up important themes, such as immigration, security and the theme of the Middle East and Islam, as well as equality,” says Sohrabi.
For Sohrab, who has a Kurdish background, this year’s Independence Day seemed more serious than before.
“This year, the importance of freedom and independence is emphasized even more. Now we see how fragile freedom is”.
One One of the most photographed guests of the castle was a member of parliament from the Green Party Mari Holopainen. Holopainen also came to visit in the continuation. The intention was not to stay long, because a working day awaits on Wednesday.
The chairmen of the governing parties will meet on Wednesday to discuss the government’s situation. However, according to Holopainen, Linna exceptionally left politics to the side.
“Usually when politicians meet, it goes to talking about politics. Now it was time to celebrate independence,” says Holopainen.
It was Holopainen’s second party. Compared to the previous experience, Linna had a more relaxed, but festive atmosphere in every way, in the eyes of a first-term MP.
To come the day’s work could affect the enthusiasm of the partygoers to participate in the sequels. According to the Linna officials who were there, fewer Linna guests had arrived in Kämpi than usual.
Mainly Finnish politicians were present. Also an MEP Laura Huhtasaari his partner arrived Teemu Lämsän with.
“The sandwich cake was especially good!”, praised Huhtasaari.
Besides that, Huhtasaari was satisfied that Lämsä was excited to dance this.
And did the fact that there were no war veterans and lottery tickets affect the atmosphere of the party?
“Yes, you noticed it. We will have to give them up in the next few years, but the memories must not fade,” said Huhtasaari.
Clock at twelve the cameras were turned off and the guests were allowed to continue their evening in peace.
At that point, there was a cheerful but calm atmosphere inside. A queue began to gather outside the hotel – many guests must have been waiting for the moment when they could arrive at the venue without having to show up.
