The hypothesis of completely cancel the air shows before the Formula 1 Grand Prix. An idea launched in the name of environmental sustainability that however clashes with the tradition of many tracks, especially that of Monza and the spectacle of the legendary Frecce Tricolori has made a real landmark over the years. The splendid choreography drawn in the sky by the Italian aerobatic team has accompanied F1 over the decades and for many purists it would be a real setback to have to give it up.
The top Italian automobile authorities have also expressed themselves on the issue, all eager to defend what is a real national heritage. The words spoken by the president of the Automobile Club of Milan are emblematic in this sense Geronimo La Russa, who underlined the importance of the Frecce Tricolori in the overall framework of the Italian GP. “I hope that the intention to eliminate the performance of the Frecce Tricolori at the Formula 1 Italian Grand Prix will return and that, in the end, a shared solution so as not to deprive the spectators of what is in effect a show within the show, as well as a strong appeal to national identity “, he has declared.
“The new course of Formula 1 can count on a strong and top-level management and is already working in a positive and innovative way – added La Russa, referring to the new management of Stefano Domenicali’s Circus, which began 12 months ago – and it is right that environmental sustainability is also part of the objectives. However, I remain of the idea that the ‘parade’ of the Frecce Tricolori is a winning component, a value added, appreciated by all“.
