At the beginning of May Nicholas Pujatti became in Misano the youngest driver to have ever scored points in the Porsche Carrera Cup Italia and the very young standard bearer of Villorba Corse, who turned 16 in December (the youngest ever this year), in doing so beat (preceding it by about 6 months) the previous record which belonged to Mattia Drudi and which had stood since 2015.
At Imola, in the second round of the current season, the rookie from Pordenone had to deal with the rain in yesterday’s free practice and this morning in qualifying, despite no precise references and in a session that was neutralized several times, he managed to climb into 11th place, which it means that sixth row from where he will start in the afternoon in race 1 so close to objective number two after the points obtained at the Misano World Circuit: “The next step is to aim for the top-10 and maybe the Rookie ‘podium’”Pujatti himself underlines.
But is it possible already in Imola?
“In my opinion yes. I’m confident, the potential is there and the tests went well.”
What effect did scoring in the points have on you in the first weekend and what effect did it bring with you here in Imola?
“I am very happy to have succeeded, because what Drudi left me is an important legacy, which will also be difficult to beat, given that I succeeded at just 16 years and 4 months… However, I am proud of what we are doing . I feel very comfortable with the Villorba team, very professional, here in Imola the pre-season tests went well and therefore I expect it to go the same way also in this race weekend.”
You are an absolute rookie in motor racing: what is the biggest difference you have found compared to karting?
“Especially the times between one session and another. In karting you’re always in a hurry, here you do things more calmly and then you spend less time in the car, even if when you get out on the track the satisfaction it gives you is obviously quite different!”
Are the fights similar?
“The brawl is more complicated, especially due to the size of the vehicle. In karting you see all four wheels and can immediately and easily understand the distances with your opponents. Here, however, there are some blind spots and, even if you understand them, taking the exact measurements is difficult at first. At Misano I managed to get used to it after a few overtakings, fortunately, and for better or worse I took some measures. In any case, overtaking is much more complicated than karting.”
