Stefano Stefanelli’s return to the Porsche Carrera Cup Italia is not just any return. And if we want, it is also one of those small, great acts of courage for which pilots are so admired, even if they themselves often experience it as a completely normal situation or simply as a challenge against themselves. Generally not particularly linked to the word courage.
In recent years, the Tuscan gentleman driver had returned to the track in the Tourism categories after leaving the Italian single-brand championship in July 2018 following a terrible impact between his 911 GT3 Cup and that of Tommaso Mosca (from which fortunately they recovered well both), which occurred in the home round at Mugello.
For Stefanelli, returning to the series represented a stone he wanted to remove from his shoes and with his arrival in Team Malucelli this year the right conditions arose: Stefano immediately felt at home, thanks also to the advice of an expert driver like Matteo Malucelli .
Now awaiting him is the start of the first round of the season at the Misano World Circuit, with tonight’s free practice scheduled from 8.45pm with a view to qualifying and races between Saturday and Sunday.
An authentically new challenge for him, given that since the tests he has also found a different 911 GT3 Cup, the “992” model most advanced in technology, aerodynamics and power with which he is ready to do battle in the Michelin Cup : “I am happy to return to the Carrera Cup Italia – declares Stefanelli –, a professional and hotly contested championship. In the first test carried out (two months ago in Misano, ed.) I acquired the first knowledge about the ‘992’. I decided to return very willingly and I can’t wait to get back in the car again”.
In April there was also a preview of the collective tests carried out in Imola: “A useful day of testing to further understand the car. Thanks to the support of Matteo Malucelli, learning is very professional and we work well together. The ‘992’ is new for me, it is faster and compared to the 2018 car we are on another planet between aerodynamic load, braking, cornering speed and much more”.
Now there is little time left for free practice for the first round of 2024 in Misano: “Starting a new season is always exciting and adrenaline-filled. I feel ready for the challenge. The Michelin Cup is very fierce, so keep your head down and work. I’ve been missing for some time, thanks to the team my approach has been gradual and very positive and I have to say thanks to my family who have always supported me. I will try to do my best”.
