Larry Ten Voorde completes the double and, after race 1 yesterday, today also wins race 2 of the second round of the Porsche Carrera Cup Italia in Imola. In the rankings the reigning champion’s escape is now starting to take shape despite the attempted resistance from Keagan Masters and Marvin Klein, back on the podium with the Dutchman, exactly like yesterday.
Ten Voorde started well from pole position, but alongside him Masters immediately became threatening. Nothing happened, however, when the Dutchman from Fulgenzi Racing closed the door on Tamburello and took off towards his second success out of two (the fourth in a row considering the two Supercup races in recent weeks).
Once again perfect race management for the reigning champion, who first escapes with fast laps (the 11th the best in 1’44″173), then in the second half he passes the unforeseen safety car without any problems, used after Oliver Gray crashes into the escape route of Rivazza 1 “pushed” by Iaquinta (then penalised), and is only joined on the podium by Masters himself and Klein.
The South African from the Q8 Hi Perform team and the Frenchman from Target Competition put on a great show in the fight for second place and before the safety car Klein seemed to be able to overtake his rival. Worth mentioning is the overtaking at Piratella with an immediate response and counter-overtaking by Masters at Acque Minerali, who at that moment managed to maintain a valuable place of honor.
Behind Klein, third, came teammate and revelation Janne Stiak. The Target Competition rookie, who turned 17 in March, started sixth at the start, but in one lap he first overtook Aldo Festante at the start and then attacked Diego Bertonelli on the second lap, overtaking him at Tamburello.
Stiak then had no problems maintaining fourth place, best among the “under” of the Scholarship Programme, while Bertonelli was at least able to enjoy the top-5 which the Tuscan from TDE had been denied yesterday due to a 5-second penalty imposed on him in the post -competition.
Sixth was therefore classified for Festante, protagonist of a regular race at the wheel of the first 911 GT3 Cup of Dinamic Motorsport, while his teammate Francesco Braschi, who, yesterday’s best among the Rookies, this time started from the center of the group and often found himself and willingly in the battles outside the top-10 in an attempt to recover (he finished 12th).
Lirim Zendeli was therefore ranked ahead of everyone in the Rookie ranking (who, like in Misano, tied the score with Braschi also in Imola). The 24-year-old German from Ombra Racing was hit on the rear in the early stages of race 2 and traveled the entire distance with the rear of the 911 GT3 Cup damaged, managing to finish seventh, which was his starting position.
The top-10 was then completed by Alberto Cerqui, eighth with BeDriver, and two young people from the Scholarship Programme, with a lively Daniel Gregor (TDE) ninth and Pietro Armanni (Prima Ghinzani) tenth. Only 11th, however, Gianmarco Quaresmini. The Tsunami RT rider from Brescia actually competed with Cerqui for eighth place throughout the race, but was penalized 5 seconds already during the dispute for abuse of track limits and was relegated.
Returning to the very young players, however, it is worth highlighting Flavio Olivieri’s first point-scoring finish, at the age of 17 less than a month ago. The Roman driver of Raptor Engineering resisted well in the various brawls of the race and crossed the finish line in 13th position.
17th place overall earned Alex De Giacomi his first success of the season in the Michelin Cup. The gentleman driver from Brescia of Tsunami RT took the lead in the category thanks to an excellent push at the start, overtaking Paolo Gnemmi (Ebimotors), winner yesterday and fourth today and awarded with the Primerent award for best in class over the weekend.
De Giacomi then took care to manage everything as best as possible and did not let himself be distracted by the flashing lights of Gianluca Giorgi, second at the finish line, as in race 1, with BeDriver, while the reigning champion Alberto De Amicis (Ebimotors) also found the podium after yesterday’s retreat.
With Gnemmi fourth, the top-5 was completed by Francesco Fenici (Raptor Engineering), who remains at the top of an increasingly short standings which sees Giorgi trailing him by just one point and all the protagonists of the Michelin Cup in full contention for the title 2024.
After a complex weekend like the one experienced on the Santerno circuit, on which a downpour hit on Friday which did not allow running in dry conditions in free practice, now everyone is at the Mugello Circuit, where the Carrera Cup Italia returns on 12-14 July for the third round to complete the first half of the season
