Janne Stiak, March 10, 2007 from Wunstorf, Germany. Will he be one of the next references in the Porsche Carrera Cup firmament? Certainly also in Vallelunga, during the recently concluded penultimate round of the Italian championship, he demonstrated that he deserves to be called a rising star (and the Italian Scholarship Programme collects its second victory of the weekend after yesterday’s one by Flynt Schuring).
So is a star being born? Given the results that the Target Competition standard bearer is putting together, certainly. But, talent and technique aside, given his attitude, listen to the words and notice a certain “serenity” in everything he does, when he celebrates on the podium as well as when it is taken away from him due to a rather unfortunate penalty, equally certainly.
Stiak won his first race in the German Carrera Cup just two weeks ago at the Sachsenring, becoming the youngest winner in the single-make series. Today he repeated the feat in the Italian Carrera Cup (the “young” record of 2015 by Mattia Drudi stands for a few months) driving a perfect race, earning the compliments of Diego Bertonelli (2nd) and with a merit that goes well beyond the fact that Ten Voorde was penalized and his teammate Marvin Klein (who was still beaten in qualifying) found himself a few positions further back due to a contact caused by Ten Voorde himself.
“Everything went well – declared the blond German after his first Italian success –I only lost one position at the start but then there was a contact and I managed to win. I have to say that it is a very important victory both for me, in the drivers’ standings, and for the Team standings (where Target Competition has regained ground on Fulgenzi Racing, ed.). After winning in Germany it’s a great result and I’m super proud. The team did a great job and it’s a bit of a revenge for yesterday’s penalty.”
In fact, in race 1 Stiak had already finished second, then became 11th due to the 5 second penalty given to him only for a slightly incorrect starting position, we are talking about a few centimetres: “Unfortunately I was on the white line of the box, it was a shame but we have to accept it, because this is what the rules say”.
A small, great proof of further maturity that comes from a young man who is still dreaming, perhaps even before living, his own climb towards the firmament, with his feet firmly planted on the ground, as well as on the accelerator of the 911 GT3 Cup: “The last few weeks have been fantastic, but the last few months have had their ups and downs, so hopefully we can continue to do our best until the end of the season. At the beginning, though, I didn’t think I could get to this level!”.
