Francesco Maria Fenici is ready for his second season in the Porsche Carrera Cup Italy. After the excellent debut in 2021, the Rieti-born driver returns to the Italian single-make car at the wheel of the new 911 GT3 Cup of the AB Racing – Porsche Centers of Rome team. Based on the 992 model, the latest evolution of the iconic GT German will be deployed for the first time in the series organized by Porsche Italy.
This is great news for the FF Motorsport standard bearer, who is once again called upon to make his debut on a latest generation Porsche after the first races on the Cayman and the “leap” on the more “extreme” and professional 911 GT3 Cup decided in 2021.
Born in 1989, Fenici made his debut in motoring in 2019, winning the GT4 title of the Porsche Sports Cup Suisse 2020 in the following season, winning 9 wins in 10 races. Then the landing in the Carrera Cup Italy, where in the debut year has marked 3 victories (one in Vallelunga and two in Franciacorta) in the Michelin Cup category, finishing in third place in the standings.
Phoenicians said: “This year the car will be new a bit’ for everyone and we will have to be good at working on it in the best way from the first test. I can not wait! I am happy with this new start and to be able to confirm the commitments with the team. 2022 is my fourth season in motorsport and at the same time my fourth with a new Porsche! We will start again from scratch once again. 2022 it will be a tougher season because there are even more contenders for the title and everything will be more complex because this time we will not use the ABS on the braking system. I don’t know yet by how much the bar will actually rise, but in this sense it will be a further challenge that will see us engaged with the aim of confirming ourselves as protagonists “.
The Carrera Cup Italia season officially begins with the collective test day scheduled for 13 April in Monza. The series is held over six events (each with two races of 28 minutes + 1 lap) starting from 7-8 May in Imola and will end on 9 October in Monza after also touching Misano, Mugello, Vallelunga (home round for the Phoenicians in mid-September) and Franciacorta, where the races will take place in the context of the Porsche Festival at the Porsche Experience Center.
