Carnival in the city of São Paulo generated an increase of 8% to 10% in sales volume compared to the same period of the previous year, projects the São Paulo Commercial Association (ACSP). The increase is directly related to the purchase of specific items, such as costumes, makeup and carnival accessories, in addition to supermarket sales, points out Ulisses Ruiz de Gamboa, economist at ACSP.
ACSP also assesses that the data indicates an “upward trajectory” of street carnival in the capital.
With the growing number of blocks, which attract people from different regions, not only the entertainment sector is stimulated, but also the services sector, with greater movement in hotels, bars and restaurants, highlights Gamboa.
The economist expects the event to “contribute positively to global retail performance”.
The increase in consumer income and the greater willingness to spend on Carnival reflect a gradual recovery of the economy, highlights the ACSP.
