The Executive of José Vélez approves the changes in the parliamentary group in its first meeting
The Regional Executive Commission of the PSOE of José Vélez started this Thursday with its first meeting after the congress last weekend. And it was not a mere contact-making meeting, but far-reaching decisions were made in the Socialist Parliamentary Group in the Regional Assembly.
Francisco Lucas was confirmed as the new spokesman, replacing Diego Conesa, something that was already taken for granted in the spheres of the party. In addition, Vélez wanted to enhance the role of women in the parliamentary group and reinforces three deputies. Thus, Carmina Fernández will be vice spokesperson, along with Alfonso Martínez Baños, who already held this position. Toñi Abenza becomes the group’s secretary, while Magdalena Sánchez Blesa will be the president.
Francisco Lucas will be the voice of Vélez in the autonomous Chamber. The Government delegate is not a deputy, which will prevent him from participating in important debates (Budgets, State of the Region) as leader of the opposition to the Government of Fernando López Miras. This situation already occurred other times in the PSRM. When Rafael González Tovar was elected general secretary, Begoña García Retegui served as parliamentary spokesperson until elections were held and the leader obtained a seat. The same happened with Diego Conesa in his first years in Princesa, in which Joaquín López held the reins of the parliamentary group as the secretary general was in the Chamber.
The new spokesperson, who is also secretary of Transparency and Democratic Regeneration of the federal Executive of the PSOE, already served as Conesa’s lieutenant in the Assembly. He was the one who registered, together with Juanjo Molina (Cs), the failed motion of censure.
A member of the Marjales group, one of the most influential in the municipality of Murcia, Francisco Lucas was a member of El Raal and deputy secretary general of the PSRM with Diego Conesa. In 2017 he tried to be secretary general of the PSRM, appearing in the primaries together with Diego Conesa and María González Veracruz. However, he was out in the first round and joined the Conesa project. He is 32 years old, the youngest member of the House, and he is a lawyer.
