Barcelona wasted two months of the transfer window trying to sign Nico Williams, a move that now more than ever seems almost impossible to close. That being the case, the club from the Catalan capital made a strong move to add Dani Olmo to their squad and in the coming weeks they will sit down at the table to negotiate other names of interest to the Catalans, one of them who is eager to hear from Laporta and company, the Portuguese Joao Cancelo.
The full-back reported back to Manchester City yesterday after his post-Euro 2024 holiday, a fact that was not in Joao’s plans, as he has no intention of staying in the Premier League champions’ squad, as it is no secret that his relationship with Pep is complex. That being the case, through his agent, Jorge Mendes, Cancelo has reportedly asked the Barcelona board to be more efficient in their search for his signing.
The Barcelona side are indeed interested in negotiating the transfer of the Portuguese and now that the club has returned to financial normality today, it is hoped that the move can move forward in a positive way, as Hansi Flick has given the green light to Joao’s return to the squad. In principle, it is hoped that an agreement can be reached with City in exchange for a loan with an obligation to buy at the end of the season.
