BYD has managed to break all the rules with its cheapest electric model to date. In China it is one of the best-selling cars and its price in this local market it barely exceeds 10,000 euros at the exchange rate. This same success is what the brand hopes to achieve by taking this small urban vehicle to other markets outside its native region.
A few months ago it was learned that the company had already started marketing in some American countries, such as Mexico or Brazil, where it had had a particularly good reception with quite considerable sales figures. Now the Chinese firm has just announced the commercial start of the BYD Seagull in Australia, but What about your arrival in Europe?
The BYD Dolphin Mini will arrive in Spain very soon
For several months it has been known that the BYD Seagull (or Dolphin Mini) will arrive in Europe sooner rather than later. As confirmed by the company itself, this small and cheap electric car should land on the Old Continent before the end of this year 2024. However, just a few weeks after this news, the brand’s leadership confirmed that the model was delayed a few months and scheduled it for the second half of 2025.
In addition, Stela Liexecutive vice president of the brand, stated that a car will not arrive in Europe exactly the same as the one known for other markets, but rather that it will receive certain changes to adapt it to the taste of the Old Continent. All the details about this are still unknown.
Its price when it arrives in Spain It should be between 15,000 and 20,000 euros starting point and without including aid or discounts available at that time. In this way, it will be an electric model that will seek to stand up to the most affordable cars in the sector, such as the Dacia Spring or the Hyundai Inster, among others. However, BYD wants to take this philosophy one step further and offer many other qualities, such as a distinctive design, a really well-made interior or notable features.
Regarding its exterior, in China the Seagull is nicknamed the ‘mini Lamborghini’, since its designer, Wolfgang Eggerwas in charge of the image of the Italian sports firm a few years ago. Therefore, its physiognomy looks really well achieved for a car of this category and with really reduced dimensions (3,780 mm in length).
In China, the BYD Seagull is offered with three trim levels: Active, Free and Flying. The first two offer an approved range of up to 305 kilometers, while the most capable will do the same with 405 kilometers.
It is expected that not all three variants will arrive in Spain, but that the brand will do the same only with the two most equipped (Free and Flying). However, this is something that has yet to be officially confirmed. Among other things, the most loaded trim offers a 10.1-inch rotating central screen with mobile connections.
With the arrival of the Dolphin Mini, BYD will have a truly complete range of products in Europe. Starting with the protagonist of this writing and concluding with the Tang, the top of the list that starts in Spain at 72,000 euros.
