Important production milestone achieved by BYD. The Chinese giant has in fact assembled 9 million new energy vehicles. The result makes it the first car manufacturer in the world to reach such a figure. The nine millionth example produced was the YangWang U9 electric supercar, produced at BYD’s Shenzhen-Shanwei plant on September 25, 2024.
BYD’s expansion
To celebrate this milestone, a ceremony was held at the factory. This milestone comes just two months after producing the eight millionth new energy vehicle, demonstrating the acceleration of BYD’s automotive division. In 2024, BYD vehicle sales grew to record levels. Passenger car sales reached 1,607 million units in the first half of the year, cementing the brand’s position as the world’s largest seller of new energy vehicles. The Chinese brand has consolidated its position on the market by also establishing itself in other markets such as Brazil, Mexico and above all Europe. In the second quarter of this year, BYD became the world’s seventh largest automaker, while its workforce grew to more than 900,000 employees, including more than 100,000 engineers.
