The drivers of urban buses, intercity buses and tow trucks will begin a general strike throughout Spain this Monday to demand early retirement in the sector, with minimum services that have been set at 50% at the state level.
According to the resolution of minimum services published by the Ministry of Transport and Urban Mobility, 50% of the currently authorized shipments must be carried out. If it is a route made up of a single expedition, it will be carried out in its entirety.
The main companies that provide long-distance bus services will contact ticket holders whose service has had to be suspended, offering them a free change.
The autonomous communities and city councils have also established the minimum services in their respective regions. For example, in Catalonia they will be 40% at peak hours and 20% the rest; In San Sebastián many lines will be cancelled, in the Balearic Islands they will be between 50% and 60%, or in Navarra 60% during peak hours and 40% the rest.
Monday is the first day of the strike, but there will be more days of strike on November 11, 28 and 29, December 5 and 9, and from December 23 indefinitely if an agreement between unions is not reached beforehand. and employers.
This Monday, CCOO and UGT will also gather at the government delegation in Madrid at 12:30 p.m.
Failure of negotiations
The decision to continue with the strike comes after the failure of the negotiations that took place this Thursday with the mediation of the Ministry of Labor and Social Economy with the different employers’ associations in the sector.
The Spanish Confederation of Bus Transport (Confebús) and the Association of Urban and Metropolitan Public Transport (ATUC) have regretted in a statement that it has not been possible to reach an agreement to avoid the strike.
Both organizations have asked the unions to prepare a study before going to the Ministry to urge the start of the procedure to set the early retirement age for bus drivers.
“Without this study, the main associations in the passenger transport sector cannot make any decision in this regard, as they are unaware of the implications that a measure of this magnitude could entail,” they defend, in relation to the increase in business contributions that the early retirement.
These are the only two sectors (buses and cranes) in which it has not been possible to reach an agreement, after ambulance driving and freight sectors (mainly trucks) have called off after negotiating the request to the Government for the application of early retirement due to the danger of the sector.
However, the employers assure that they remain open to new conversations to try to unblock this situation. Union sources consulted by Europa Press point to November 6 for a new meeting between both parties, although only in the crane sector. Regarding buses, there is still no set date.
