Video on social media shows 23-story building leaning forward; basement columns have cracks
A 23-story residential building was evacuated this Tuesday afternoon (13.Feb.2024) in Big beach (SP) due to a “structural collapse”. The problem was identified in 3 columns in the building's basement, according to the city's Civil Defense. There are no injuries.
According to Civil Defense, all cars were removed from parking lots and water tanks were emptied to reduce pressure. The construction company responsible for the building is shoring up the pillars to alleviate the excess weight caused by the damaged structures.
The release of the property is not yet scheduled. An inspection with engineers from the city hall, the construction company and the Civil Defense will be carried out to verify the causes of the damage and their consequences. Based on this information, a decision will be made on whether to release the building.
Of the 23 floors, 19 are residential. There are also garages in the basement and on the ground floor. There are 133 apartments.
