Brown-Horner, more clashes
McLaren vs Red Bull, even off the track. Over the last two years, Woking CEO Zak Brown did not miss the opportunity to tease Red Bull team principal Chris Horner: the American has never digested the fact that the multinational could own two F1 teams, he asked for transparency after the accusations of harassment by the Red Bull employee and above all he has always been critical of the affair of 2021 budget cap exceeded of £1.8 million.
Now that McLaren has caught up with and surpassed Red Bull’s level on the track, Brown has once again provoked the Briton, accusing him of having always been evasive in his explanations for exceeding the spending cap.
Brown’s words
“I’ve known Christian for about 25, 30 years. We competed against each other and got along well. I believe in transparency and I believe that you have to admit your mistake when you do something wrong. Regarding the budget cap, I’ve never heard a ‘We were wrong’. What I heard were excuses without taking any responsibility.“, these are Brown’s words to the BBC.
“When someone violates the cost cap and doesn’t seem to take it seriously, it strikes at the integrity and heart of this sport. For me, it’s not a personal issue, but it’s about protecting our sport. I realize that this isn’t necessarily going to be popular, or he won’t make friends with everyone in the paddockbut the important thing for me is that he is a friend of McLaren, our fans and our partners“.
