The Ministry of the Environment and Energy Security requested 239 document additions from the Stretto di Messina SpA company, as part of the evaluation of the Bridge project.
According to what Ansa reports, 155 additions were requested for the Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA). Another 66 additions were requested for the Impact Assessment (Vinca), which verifies the consequences of a work on Natura 2000 sites, the protected sites of EU interest. For the Land Use Plan (Put) 16 additions were requested, for the Verification of Compliance (Vo) 2. This can be read on the website of the Via-Vas del Mase Commission.
The requests for additions and clarifications “are absolutely appropriate, given the size and complexity of the Work and the related interactions with the territory and the various environmental components”. The company's CEO, Pietro Ciucci, told Ansa.
“The Company has always invested in the environment – he added – and even in this phase of resumption of the project every effort will be made to reduce the impacts of the work to a minimum and to ensure that it is an opportunity to enhance the territories and environmental components. In the 30 days foreseen by the procedure, the Strait of Messina, together with Eurolink, will prepare all the requested additions and clarifications”.
