Palestinian representative in Brazil said that Brazil has not yet received authorization to leave the conflict because it is from the “3rd world”
The Palestinian ambassador to Brazil, Ibrahim Alzebensaid this Friday (3.Oct.2023) that Brazilians have not yet received authorization to leave Gaza because they are from a poor country. “The blood and life of that first world is worth more. It is a reality. The world is having an imbalance”declared in an interview with the portal UOL.
Brazilians are still not allowed to leave the conflict-ridden region. On Friday, it was the 3rd time who were left off the authorization list. The country is awaiting permission to remove a group of 34 people (24 Brazilians and 10 Palestinians who are in the process or will begin immigration to the country).
571 people with citizenship from the United States, United Kingdom, Italy, Indonesia, Germany and Mexico received approval to leave.
According to the ambassador, authorization depends “absolutely” of Israel. Citizens would leave through the border with Rafah, Egypt.
Ibrahim further stated that the deaths of Palestinians in the conflict are seen as a “side effect” of the war with Israel. “Their lives are not worth as much as others. This is a reality that we feel and the world is feeling”, he said.
In October, Brazil presented a plan to the Security Council of UN (United Nations) to intervene in the war, but the United States vetoed the proposal. For the ambassador, it was an attempt by the North American government to provide a “White card” to carry out the attacks.
“The conflict could have been stopped 7, 10 days ago. The United States can stop the war now, letting a resolution pass and forcing Israel to stop its slaughter. The Palestinian people are paying and the US is allowing it.”declared Ibrahim.
Asked about Israel’s possible responsibility for a bomb attack on a convoy of ambulances in Palestine on Thursday (Nov 2), the ambassador accused the rival country of committing genocide. “Of course it is Israel that is bombing. It’s kind of weird to think about someone else. Where will it come from?”, he questioned. Israel took over the attack on the vehicles.
WHAT IS IT GENOCIDE
The word “genocide” has frequented Brazilian political news in recent times, especially because of the Covid-19 pandemic. Governments and politicians were classified as genocidal for not following the standard recommended procedures for combating coronavirus.
It turns out that being irresponsible or making decisions contrary to common sense in the area of public health or in places of war conflicts does not constitute genocide, when taking into account the real meaning of the term. O Power360 made a report about what it is genocide: read here.
The word genocide appeared in 1944, during the 2nd World War. It was created by lawyer Raphael Lemkin (1900-1959), a Polish Jew, to conceptualize the abuses suffered by victims of the Nazi government. It comes from the junction of genosa Greek word meaning “tribe”with cideLatin expression for “to kill”.
According to professor at the PUC-Rio Law Institute, Michael Freitas Mohallem, “O genocide is the act of destroying a group, whether ethnic or religious, but it has an important element which is the intention of an agent to eradicate a specific group”. In short, whoever commits genocide it needs deliberately wish to exterminate a population group.
In 1948, the genocide came to be defined as a crime when the UN (United Nations) held an event to address the issue, the “Convention for the Prevention and Suppression of Crime Genocide”. Within the framework of international law, the organization’s member countries undertake to monitor and punish possible perpetrators.
In the case of the war between Hamas and Israel, the conflict began after an attack by sea, land and air by the extremist group on Israeli territory on October 7, 2023. In this surprise military attack, Hamas killed men, women and children without distinction, including more than 200 young people who participated in a rave (party). The group has a public statute in which one of its purposes includes the extinction of Israel.
