“1.5 °C” mission proposes the development of actions against climate change and strengthening cooperation between countries
Brazil, United Arab Emirates and Azerbaijan announced on Tuesday (13.Feb.2024) the “Mission 1.5 °C”. The agreement, which was created at the United Nations Conference on Climate Change (COP 28), in Dubai, aims toincrease actions against climate change and reinforce cooperation between countries.
In message Regarding the commitment, the Minister of Environment and Climate Change, Marina Silva, cited the importance of countries in transferring their fossil energy to clean and renewable sources.
During COP 28, in December 2023, the minister had already spoken that the conference could not be closed without the decision to “face the debate about the slow pace of decarbonization of the planet, and work towards an economy less dependent on fossil fuels”.
“It is essential that developed countries take the lead in the transition towards the end of fossil fuels and ensure the necessary means for developing countries to implement their mitigation and adaptation actions”stated the minister during the closing of the conference
During the UN (United Nations) event, the international entity warned countries about the danger of not complying with climate actions. The organization recommended 198 countries to “accelerate action in this critical decade to achieve carbon neutrality by 2050, according to science”.
