Jaime Munguía earned respect for the way he stood on the mat to give his best techniques to Saúl Álvarez in his goal of being the new 168-pound King.
The first three rounds saw the Tijuanense inspired and sure that the cards would be in his favor, however the fall in the fourth round due to the uppercut of ‘Canelo’, began to decree his destiny in the fight.
Jaime Munguía could not match the redhead and by unanimous decision he lost the laurel crown as well as the WBC, WBA, WBO and IBF belts that belong to the super middleweight division.
Almost two weeks before the boxing match, Jaime Munguía revealed that he had a problem prior to the fight that would have been a factor in his defeat against Saúl ‘Canelo’ Álvarez.
«I went to search, to win the fight, I worked hard. “It’s not an excuse, (but) when there were three weeks left until the fight, in a sparring match (I suffered) a small cut on my forehead that John Ryder had given me.”
«Then I stopped sparring four or five times and maybe it could have been a factor because in the fourth or fifth round I felt a little tired and lowered the intensity. Besides, he (‘Canelo’ Álvarez) has a lot of experience, “He was hitting my arms and lowered the intensity of my jab,” added Jaime Munguía.
