The head of EU diplomacy Borrell urged Europe to wait for the effect of sanctions against Russia
The countries of Europe must be patient in order to wait for the effect of the sanctions adopted against Russia. This was called for by the head of European diplomacy Josep Borrell in his blog.
According to him, the restrictions against Moscow are not too noticeable yet, but they can still prove their effectiveness in the long term. Thus, a ban on the supply of semiconductors to Russia will reduce the production of high-precision missiles in the country. In addition, Russia will eventually find itself in scientific, economic and technological isolation.
In this regard, European states should show strategic patience at this stage, the diplomat believes.
Earlier in July, Borrell acknowledged that for many EU countries, the rapid abandonment of Russian energy sources creates serious difficulties. At the same time, he stressed that this is the price that European states must pay “for the protection of democracy and international law.”
