During his visit to the United States, the President of Chile, Gabriel Boric, spoke about the elections in Colombia and alluded to the candidate Gustavo Petrowith whom he has shown political affinity in the past.
“You know where our hearts are (…)”, declared the president at a press conference he offered at the Los Angeles mayor’s office after a question from a journalist from BluRadio.
“Beyond my personal preferences and political affinities that you know, we have the duty to have a State relationship. We are going to respect the decision of the Colombian people,” Boric added when referring to a possible result in the second presidential round.
In the past, both politicians have had approaches. In fact, Petro attended Boric’s presidential inauguration in Chile.
The Chilean president is in US territory to participate in the Summit of the Americasan event that takes place during this week precisely in Los Angeles, California.
The event began under strong criticism after the exclusion of countries such as Nicaragua, Venezuela and Cuba. Washington says that these countries are led by “dictators” and that is why it refrained from inviting delegations from those countries.
Beyond my personal preferences and political affinities that you know, we have the duty to have a State relationship.
Boric purposely disagreed with excluding these countries.
“When (human rights) are violated in Venezuela, Israel, Chile or Colombia, it hurts me in the same way, but I prefer to tell them in person. And when you have a multilateral summit, and you decide to exclude it by decision of the host without consulting the rest, that’s a mistake.”
