Speaker of the Chamber said that the issue of printed voting is not good for Brazil or for the Electoral Justice
The President of the Chamber of Deputies, Arthur Lira (PP-AL), said this Thursday (18.Aug.2022) that the president’s attacks were wrong Jair Bolsonaro (PL) to electronic voting machines.
“Think [que é um erro]. I’ve already said it personally, I’ve already told him, I’ve asked, I’ve already said it, we’ve already voted on this issue in Congress”said Lira when asked about the vote printed at the event Macro Day 2022by BTG Pactual, an event that brought together economists and politicians to discuss macroeconomics.
The president of the Chamber highlighted that the printed vote was not the “Brazil’s main topic” and that the agenda was not good for the country, Bolsonaro or the Electoral Justice. “Everyone has to hold back”he said.
The congressman also said that the discussion about electronic voting machines does not lead to “no corner” and that only brings instability and insecurity to the country.
Lira reiterated that it was necessary to respect the results of the polls and said he had contested 8 elections, 6 in electronic voting machines and that, therefore, he had no “no condition” to criticize the system.
Bolsonaro has already criticized the Brazilian electoral process on several occasions and made a speech in defense of the printed vote and accused the current system of being susceptible to fraud. He has already stated that without “audible vote” there may be no elections in 2022.
possession of Moraes
In addition to debating the elections, Lira also spoke about the inauguration of the new president of the TSE (Superior Electoral Court), Alexandre de Moraes on Tuesday (16.Aug.2022).
The inauguration brought together, in an unprecedented way, the 2 best-placed candidates in the dispute for the Planalto in 2022: Bolsonaro and the former president. Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva (EN). In addition to them, there were also former presidents Jose Sarney, Dilma Rousseff (EN) and Michel Temer (MDB).
“The presence of everyone there, you cannot say that that movement had only one aspect. The only aspect I had was to have peace of mind”declared Lira.
Spending ceiling
The Speaker of the House also defended a “redesign” of the spending ceiling, so that it is not so pressured. “I never get tired of talking about the budget redesign with de-indexation, with circulation where there, in the budget change, we can find some solutions”, he declared.
For the congressman, the redesign has to be done at a time of fiscal responsibility and under the impression that the next Congress will be “center right”which, according to Lira, may continue with privatizations.
“There is no way to work with the budget linked and indexed as we work today. With 96% of the budget frozen with mandatory expenses, 4% of investment is left for all of Brazil”said the deputy.
Petrobras
Despite defending privatizations and being in favor of privatizing Petrobras, Lira said that President Bolsonaro still did not want to “touch this topic”.
The deputy stated that, to be a public company, Petrobras would need to have a “social action” more presence and more investments in Brazil, which, according to him, the state company still does not have. He also said that Petrobras is focused only on the distribution of dividends.
