President Jair Bolsonaro was welcomed this Monday (1st) with demonstrations by supporters and opponents in the province of Padua, region of Veneto, northern Italy. There, the president will receive the title of honorary citizen in the municipality of Anguillara Veneta, where his great-grandfather Vittorio was born.
In the morning, a group installed itself to receive the head of government with Brazilian flags and repeating the cry of “myth”. Other people, however, chose to boo him.
In recent days, the diocese of Padua even issued an official note in which it reported that there was “enormous shame” for granting Bolsonaro the title of hourly citizen amid the suffering of “brothers and sisters” in Brazil.
The head of government, who does not participate in the 26th United Nations Conference on Climate Change (COP) in Glasgow, UK, chose to stay in Italy, where he attended the meeting of G20 leaders held this weekend.
