Several government ministers said as they went to the corona talks on wednesday that the goal is to lift restrictions on the epidemic.
“Of course, we want to lift these restrictions,” the prime minister said Sanna Marin (sd).
“We are seeing restrictions being lifted elsewhere in Europe. It is time for us to discuss whether it is time to change our perspective.”
According to Marini, it has already been stated in the past that restrictions could be relaxed in low-risk situations.
He also said he believes restrictions on higher-risk situations can still be lifted. However, in nightclubs, for example, it is still too early. The restrictions on food restaurants will be lifted as early as February.
Government met again on Wednesday morning at the Estate House to discuss measures related to the corona epidemic.
Minister for Climate and Environment Emma Kari (Green) estimates that when people go to negotiations, people are very tired of restrictions.
“It feels like Finns can’t take it anymore,” he said. According to him, the starting point must be that restrictions are lifted as soon as possible.
“Such restrictions must not become normal,” he said.
The HS followed the comments of the ministers going to the negotiations moment by moment. Follow-up is at the end of the story.
Government according to the press release, “the government will receive an epidemiological review of the situation and discuss the updating of corona strategies and assess the lifting of restrictions”.
According to HS, the original plan was not to decide exactly how, for example, restaurant restrictions would be lifted, but to give a broader picture of the situation and the extent to which restrictions would be reduced in February, for example.
Social– and the Department of Health (STM) has been preparing to renew an extensive hybrid strategy, but it will not be completed by Wednesday. Instead, the STM is expected to provide the government with a general guideline on how to deal with the coronavirus in the near future and in the slightly longer term.
It is a matter of dismantling the emergency braking mechanism introduced at the end of the year, ie the controlled dismantling of restrictions in Finnish.
More detailed work will then likely be done by the government’s coronation ministerial working group. It is known that the meeting time of the group has not yet been decided. It was announced last week that the group will not meet until next week.
The meeting of the next coronation ministerial working group is likely to be chaired by the new minister for family and basic services Who is Linden (sd), which is scheduled to be appointed on Friday.
Oman the Minister of Science and Culture, who appeared on Tuesday night, Antti Kurvisen (central) proposal for lifting restrictions. According to the proposal signed by Kurvinen, the Ministry of Education and Culture (OKM) will propose the lifting of all restrictions on cultural and sports events as well as hobbies and competition activities by 10 February.
Kurvinen’s presentation came as a surprise to other governing parties, as well as to the Prime Minister’s Office, which is organizing the negotiation.

HS: n sources in several governing parties say politicians now need to act as unrestrainders. Marin said at an event at the editors ’association on Monday that he thinks the restrictions should be lifted during February.
The center supported Marini’s view.
Government sources see Kurvinen’s presentation as necessary to profile itself as an opener and to put pressure on other parties to speed up decisions.
Kurvinen’s bulletin puts other parties in a difficult position. If now no restrictions are lifted, other parties seem to be holding back, although all parties have a desire to lift restrictions quickly. It’s about in what order and when.
According to HS, the Prime Minister’s Office decided to hold a consultation so that the entire government could, among other things, get STM’s latest insight into the hospital and corona situation and the order in which the emergency brake mechanism should be dismantled without stalling in the negotiations.
Government only restaurant restrictions, borders and a corona passport are in power.
However, Kurvinen, for example, may propose amendments to the Communicable Diseases Act, according to which regional government agencies could no longer restrict, for example, cultural events in the current way. However, changes in the law are not being implemented very quickly and it is up to STM to prepare them.
Offering the Communicable Diseases Act The dismantling of corona instruments is considered problematic in many parties because if the situation worsens again, the government will have time to enact the Communicable Diseases Act again.
The government can direct municipalities and regional government agencies, but this work is primarily the responsibility of STM officials in charge.
Marin justified the continuation of restrictions in the editors’ association on Monday on the grounds that there are still an exceptional number of coronary patients in hospitals.
He also justified them with a high need for intensive care.
In the era of omicron transformation, the number of corona deaths has been significantly higher than at any time during the two-year crisis.
The prime minister said it would not be good if the restrictions were lifted too soon and then had to be reverted.
“I fully understand the difficulties in different areas and the pain and resentment of restraint. In many areas, action is based on the physical encounter of people, and now we have had to limit this. We will gradually lift the restrictions as quickly as we can, ”Marin said.
Government possibly also deals with the corona passport. The government is still preparing to convert the corona passport into a vaccine passport. The National Institute for Health and Welfare (THL) has changed its position on it and now considers it useless.
The government eased restrictions last week, but there has been huge criticism of the continued tightness of restrictions on restaurants in particular.
