According to Marin, the government has an obligation to bring the law to parliament when people’s lives and health can be endangered in a labor dispute.

Prime minister Sanna Marin (sd) says that the governing parties must follow the jointly agreed rules of the game. This also applies to the patient safety law, which would enable limiting strikes that threaten life and health and assigning workers to work.
The ruling party Vasemmistoliitto announced on Monday that it will vote in parliament against the motion restricting the right to strike if there are no significant changes to it.
“I have discussed this, chairman Li Andersson’s with and my understanding is that when the Government takes this law to the parliament today, the government will be united in this matter and all the ministers will be on the side of the proposal”, Marin said on Tuesday in Strasbourg.
Marin was a guest speaker in the parliament and held a short press conference for Finnish journalists after her speech.
“The discussion of the rules of the game also has to be held at the end of the parliament.”
Marin said that he understands the concern of the representatives of the leftist union regarding the content of the law. According to him, in parliament, committees can always review legislation and listen to experts.
“I give value and time to the work that the parliament does. At the same time, it should be noted that the schedule is reasonably tight due to strike threats.”
Marin did not take a position on whether the Left Alliance can remain in the government if the parliamentary group votes against the patient safety bill.
“It is a serious matter when we talk about the protection of human lives. In such a situation, the government has an obligation to introduce legislation to the parliament, so that we can protect the lives and health of citizens in all circumstances, including industrial action.”
Marin said he wanted to send a message to the unions that such strikes would not be started, where people’s lives and health could be seriously endangered.
