The Chamber of the Radio and Television Industry declares a war footing against the ruling that has just been issued by the Supreme Court of Justice of the Nation, ordering that the media clearly distinguish between news information and private opinion that communicators emit. They describe it as a setback to freedom of expression.
The magistrates reserve the name of the person or organization that presented the amparo that led them to such a decision that immediately raised a great national controversy since there are at least 1,400 radio and television stations that publish a protest display and they consider it impossible to meet the requirements demanded of them.
They warn that this imposition on radio and television runs the risk of canceling most of the news programs that usually mix news and opinions; likewise, that informative notes in which third parties do not distinguish between information and opinion be eliminated. That the right to editorial freedom and the rights of the audience are violated.
Apparently, for the moment, the printed newspapers are not at risk with this Court ruling because it has long ago marked the difference between news and opinion and it is common to identify the spaces in which news is spread from the columns and articles of opinion; however, the repercussions of these new obligations must be thoroughly assessed. For now, the coin is up in the air.
Potpourri. Everything indicates that there is a major clash taking place between the government of the Fourth Transformation headed by President Andrés Manuel López Obrador and high-level foreign officials, such as the United States Secretary of Energy, Jannet Granholm, and the Spanish Secretary of State. for Ibero-America, Juan Fernández Trigo, who came to Mexico in full discussion of the electricity reform initiative, to defend the interests of the large international electricity companies.
AMLO told Jannet that it will be analyzed on a case-by-case basis so as not to affect honest American investors, but he also questioned her about whether “they are willing to defend the corruption” of Spanish companies that they should be ashamed of because they are some true thieves. He did not even reply publicly to the Spanish official, which indicates that the balance will tilt against that party, but he clarified that Mexico is not a colony or a land of conquest.
TO CLASSES. Now there is already a fixed date, although it is still tentative, since the SEPyC projects that the return to face-to-face classes will take place on January 31 and in a staggered manner in an agreement with the Ministry of Health, waiting for the pandemic to subside.
BREAD. It was already urgent that there be stability in the PAN and apparently it can be restored after Roxana Rubio protested as president yesterday, who immediately extended her hand to the PAN members, telling them that the party needs everyone and announcing a soon relaunch in an act that will be attended by the national leader Marko Cortés.
“I don’t think they are willing to defend corruption”, President Andrés López
