A blind street dog finds a new home. But out of longing for his beloved animal shelter keeper, he goes back on a long odyssey.
Gydia/Poland – Life is hard for dogs that live on the street. You have to be – unlike them Street dogs for whom a restaurant chef cooks an extra meal every day, are looking for food themselves, are chased away or even beaten by people. The half-breed Gary has already experienced a lot in his twelve years of life. He had to live on the streets for a long time and to make matters worse he is blind in both eyes. But then his fate changes for the better.
Blind dog grandpa finds a new home – and is lovingly cared for for the first time in his life
One day an animal lover takes pity on Gary, frees him from being a street dog and takes him to the animal shelter “Paka dla Zwierzaka” in Gdynia, Poland, where he is lovingly cared for and cared for for the first time in his life. His carer and the blind dog grandpa quickly become close friends. After only a few weeks, the time has come: Gary is adopted – but he himself has other plans, as reported by kreiszeitung.de.
Dog breaks free on first walk with new owner – he wants to go back to the animal shelter
Actually, a happy home with a new owner is waiting for Gary, reports the Polish portal The First News: “A wonderful elderly gentleman decided to give Gary a permanent home, everyday walks and a happy retirement, so Gary moved to Żuków says shelter director Marta Słodnik.
But on the first walk together with his new owner, he tears himself away and embarks on an odyssey lasting several days. That four-legged friends like to run away is nothing new. Even a Jack Russell from Tennessee escaped a courageous parcel driver “delivered” the missing dog to his mistress.
Blind Gary escapes – dozens of people are looking for the dog grandpa
The new owner immediately notifies the animal shelter and starts a major search. “In the next few days, dozens of people were in Żuków looking for Gary,” says the director of the shelter. What nobody suspected: the blind dog grandpa had long since made his way back to the animal shelter.
Dog grandpa finds his way back to the animal shelter after five days and a 25-kilometer hike
Gary disappeared for five days until he was finally found by children – peacefully asleep in a forest near Gydia. “He walked more than 25 km in the cold without knowing the area,” the shelter reports on Facebook. The reason for Gary’s return was his longing for the caretaker who had lovingly cared for him there. Even his lack of sight didn’t stop the fur nose from taking the long distance to get to his “heart master”. It’s a real miracle that he – blind and from an unfamiliar city – managed to find his way back there all by himself.
Gary stays with his heart master: “He chose his own family”
It is immediately clear: Gary has to stay with his favorite carer and will not return to his former master. “Gary chose his own family, his heart family – and we respect his choice,” said the director of the shelter. “He is now no longer available for adoption as he will be staying with his temporary guardians forever.” However, Gary is not the only blind dog who has finally found a home. Also a blind dog and his cat buddy found a new family together.
But how did Gary’s actual, new owner react to his four-legged friend’s decision? The elderly gentleman showed understanding, reports the animal shelter. A new canine buddy is now being sought for him – who hopefully will then want to stay.
