THE ANGELS — Billy Ray Cyrus and Firerose are officially divorced.
The dissolution of their seven-month marriage was finalized Monday by a Williamson County judge in Tennessee, three months after Cyrus filed for divorce.
Cyrus, 62, cited irreconcilable differences and “inappropriate marital conduct” when she filed for divorce from the 36-year-old woman, whose given name is Johanna Rose Hodges.
In a statement to The Associated Press, Cyrus’ attorneys, Rose Palermo and Jason Talley of Cheatham Palermo & Garrett, said he and Hodges reached a settlement Friday, adding that Cyrus is “relieved to put this nightmare behind us.”
“I am so relieved… and I am thankful that I can breathe a sigh of relief today,” Cyrus said in a statement. “It is unfortunate… It played out this way.”
“It was a matter of the heart. Love is blind… That’s for sure. BRC,” he concluded his statement.
Cyrus’ attorneys claimed in their statement that Hodges legally changed his last name to Cyrus prior to mediation, which they say Cyrus feels “validates his claim that his ex-wife’s only impetus for marrying him was to obtain his last name.”
Hodges’ attorneys did not respond to requests for comment.
Court documents show that neither party will pay spousal support, and much of the property division is based on their property before the two were married.
At the time of the initial filing in May, Cyrus was also seeking an annulment due to fraud by Hodges, arguing that she would not have married Hodges “had she known” about the alleged fraud. This filing did not elaborate on the alleged misconduct or fraud, but noted that they should each be able to keep property they owned separately.
After tying the knot in October 2023, the musicians lived in Tennessee and released several songs together. According to court documents, Cyrus will hand over ownership, masters and copyright rights, as well as royalties, to Hodges for the music and intellectual property they created together before and during their marriage.
Cyrus was married twice before, including to Tish Cyrus, with whom he had five children, including singer and actress Miley Cyrus. The couple divorced in 2022 after nearly three decades together. They had previously called off divorce proceedings in 2010 and 2013.
The 2022 divorce kicked off a much-publicized rift in the Cyrus family. When Miley won her first Grammy in February, she said, “I don’t think I’ve forgotten anybody” after a long list of thanks and shout-outs to her family that included her mother, who was present at the ceremony, but excluded her father and “Hannah Montana” co-star.
