US President Joe Biden announced today, Friday, that he will attend the funeral of Queen Elizabeth II in the United Kingdom.
“I don’t know the details yet, but I will attend,” the president told reporters.
The date of the funeral has not yet been confirmed, but it is likely that it will take place on September 19 at Westminster Cathedral in the British capital, London.
Queen Elizabeth II died on Thursday at her residence at Balmoral Palace in Scotland at the age of 96, after assuming the British throne for more than 70 years.
Yesterday, Thursday, the US President mourned the Queen, saying that she was a “state woman of unparalleled dignity and steadfastness,” adding that “she was more than a queen. She embodied an era.”
Biden added, in a statement, that Elizabeth II “contributed to making the relationship between the United Kingdom and the United States (relationship) special,” stressing that he “looks forward to continuing the relationship of friendship with the new King” Charles III.
