With Rimac Nevera it can be said that the Mate Rimac has surpassed its previous limits. The Croatian electric supercar was a revelation during 2021, with the presentation in June that set the competition back several years. This is a real dream sports car, starting from the price: it costs two million dollars, but in terms of performance Nevera is worth every penny.
The car has a maximum power of 1,914 horsepower and a peak torque of 2,360 Nm, with a sprint from 0 to 100 km / h, thanks to the four-wheel drive, in less than two seconds (1.85) and a top speed of 412 kilometers per hour. With a weight of 2150 kilos and an expected range of 550 kilometers in the WLTP cycle, it is certainly one of the most extraordinary electric supercars never built. The Nevera is a real bullet on four wheels: the acceleration value from standstill of 1.5 G was recorded. A monster of power that glues you to the seat.
The powertrain consists of four electric motors powered by a liquid-cooled, H-shaped 120 kWh battery, which forms an integral part of the car’s core as a structural element. Rimac explained that this configuration is capable of adding 37% more stiffness to the carbon fiber monocoque frame. The battery is positioned low in the car and between the two axles, offering 48:52 front / rear weight distribution to increase agility and handling. Rimac Nevera features aerodynamics with attention to every detail, which is why the car is not only a champion of acceleration, but also feels good in mixed-winding. Brembo 390mm carbon-ceramic brake discs with six-piston calipers that sit behind lightweight forged alloy wheels, and double-arm suspension with electronically adjustable shock absorbers, are the technical standard chosen by Rimac’s engineers.
The electric supercar also brings with it various driving aids, based on eight cameras and a lidar sensor, six radars and twelve ultrasonic sensors. Along with an NVIDIA Pegasus operating system, a Driver Coach program is available, integrated with extensive use of Artificial Intelligence, to help Rimac Nevera drivers improve their performance on the track. All this obviously supported by an on-board telemetry system. The AI Driver Coach feature will be enabled by an over-the-air software update coming in 2022.
The car is so crazy that Mate Rimac once even had to apologize. In fact, shortly after the presentation of the car, a man, at the wheel of the Nevera during a special test drive, launched the racing car at over 230 km / h on a road open to traffic, exceeding the established limit of 90 km / h by more than double. by the law on that stretch. In a post on Facebook the Croatian businessman had shown all his sorrow and disappointment for what happened, disagreeing with the driver’s irresponsible behavior. In fact, the car is not exactly suitable for sprints between traffic lights, but rather it can show all its qualities on track days.
In official and unofficial acceleration races, Nevera has already lined up several endothermic models, in particular the Ferrari SF90 Stradale. And if this is the beginning of the era of electric supercars, one can only imagine how far it can go beyond the imagination of the good Mate.
