Since last Wednesday Bertín Osborne and his ex Fabiola Martínez starred on the cover of the magazine ‘Hola!’ together with his son Kike to announce the name change of his foundation, the singer has not stopped receiving criticism about it. Fed up with any of his actions being questioned and being portrayed as heartless, he has decided to break his silence and clarify some issues. «I have never said this, but Fabiola and I, since Kike was born and we created the Foundation, we have taken our son out because we do not have to hide him. Because we have encountered many families over these 18 years who were ashamed to teach their children and others who did not know what to do with them. Some park them in a wheelchair and make them watch television all day. So it is impossible for them to improve. For this reason, we have always shown it so that families who have this problem see that it is possible and that the children improve. They gave our son two years to live, they told us that he was going to be a vegetable, a recurring thing that unfortunately is told to families,” claims the artist.
– So Kike is like a hope for them?
– Absolutely. I don’t forget that in a hospital they told me ‘if you have other children, take care of the others now’. This is a dramatic thing that keeps being said. In the Foundation there are more than 2,500 families, who come from all over Spain and are desperate because they do not know what to do. Many get divorced. Parents generally, unfortunately, get out of the way and these children live abandoned to their fate, which is a disgrace. When we take Kike out so they can see that he is a child who is awake, and he answers that he looks smiling and happy, you can’t imagine the impact it has on our world of disability. In Spain there are 400,000 registered children with brain injuries. You can’t imagine the hope we give to many families when they see that our child is more present every day. We want to get it out and we will continue to do so so that people see that there is hope.
– And in case there is any doubt, they have not charged for the report. No?
– Absolutely nothing ever, you can talk to the magazine, whenever we have done something with Kike, the magazine has made a donation to help the Foundation.
Gourmet Products
A month ago he launched BSO (Bertín Osborne Selección) a line of gourmet products with his friend José Luis López ‘El Turronero’ that is being very well received in the market.
-It is being said that he has taken advantage of this launch to give away hams and ingratiate himself with the press.
-«I have only given two boxes of the products to two journalist friends of mine, Carlos Herrera and Federico Jiménez Losantos, the rest of my shipments have been to businessmen and people in the sector. Yes, there has been another shipment from my partner and friend ‘El Turronero’, which by the way is the only company for which I have not asked him for money. I have nothing to do with those shipments and I don’t care either, he can do whatever he wants with the press. Furthermore, I don’t have problems with anyone, least of all with the press, if they do, it will be them with me. If a sample has been sent like other brands do, it has not been done with any objective for them to say anything, but rather so that they can try it,” the artist clarifies.
The brand is pending to include a couple more products before next spring and with these 14 products it is launching into the food market with the aim of being present in all large stores. At the moment they have tested it according to the artist and they are all interested in including them.
On the right track
Another issue for which the singer is being highly criticized is his attitude towards his last child resulting from his relationship with Gabriela Guillén. Osborne always made it clear that it had not been a planned pregnancy but an accident and has acknowledged that from the first moment I respected her wishes, although she did not share it. Although a few months ago Bertín publicly recognized the minor, Guillén decided to follow the legal route so that a judge would grant paternity to the artist.
-«This step was unnecessary because I have already recognized it, the objective of the trial is to award it to me or not to award it to me. If I have already assigned it to myself, it is making justice work for nothing. And then, furthermore, there is an important thing, there is a minor involved and I have thought about it many times and I don’t want tomorrow when I go to school to be told your father is taking your mother to court because he didn’t trust her. If I go to do that to any clinic or court, it will be a circus. The child is happy with his mother and one day I will see him and one day I will enjoy him.
– So, they have contact…
We are on the way to normalizing things. It’s not that we haven’t talked to each other in life, we talk absolutely well and wonderfully. We haven’t seen each other in person but we communicate, this past Sunday for example we talked. It’s not that I’ve gotten out of the way and don’t want to know anything. No, it’s true, not at all.
– I imagine that for you normalizing this situation will be a relief because although now you think otherwise, it is very familiar.
– Don’t have the slightest doubt. What happens is that when things are like this, it’s a surprise and they catch you off guard because you have to assimilate a lot of things. Especially when I have so much family. I have to make some decisions calmly and without overriding anyone and that is what I am doing. I’m not crazy or heartless. I never have been nor am I now. And everyone knows that, starting with Gabriela. I never deceived her, I told her from the first moment that I was old enough to be a grandfather, not a father.
Bertín also wants to take advantage of our talk to clarify that Gabriela has not asked him for a single euro for the baby’s support until now. “Never, she has always refused to charge a euro, I have offered it to her and she has always told me that it is a professional, who has his job and has not accepted anything. It is true that two years ago when I found out that I was pregnant, the first months were a bit of a shock, I helped her, but she stood up and told me, I don’t want one more euro. And until today.
Farewell
On October 18, the singer had to say goodbye to his father Enrique Ortiz López-Valdemoro, at 96 years of age. Very affected by his loss since in recent years they had been very close, the singer and his brothers managed to fulfill his wish that all the funerals be carried out in the strictest privacy. Bertín, the oldest of the four brothers, confirms that he has already requested the title of Count of Donadío de Casasola from the Ministry of Justice. «One day I thought that my father was going to disinherit me because I told him that it was more important to be Bertín Osborne than Count of Donadío de Casasola and he got very angry. But then I found out that I couldn’t take it away…(laughs) The titles cannot be transferred, you can distribute them, which is what my father did in life. “I had another title and he asked my permission, I had to go to the notary and say that I did accept that my sister receive the title of Countess of las Navas.”
This week is also key for the artist who has already made a decision about his future in the world of music «I have a meal this Thursday with my recruiting office because I have tried myself singing and I am fine, but I am not perfect. I would like to do a big final tour with 30 concerts in the most beautiful places where I have sung including some places in Mexico, I wish I could go to Venezuela, but I can’t and in Colombia. And focus on my television program on Canal Sur that is going like a cannon and on this food thing that I hope will give me a lot of joy.
