With the support of Nike the new season of his initiative starts in Milan: “And in the future I would like to add rugby”
Northern outskirts of Milan, the Iseo Sports Center, a cult place for sports in this city. The noise coming from inside the gym is important. Someone trains, someone tries, someone just wants to play, everyone has fun in this initiative born from the lucky meeting of art4sport, the non-profit organization of the Vio family, and from Nike who enthusiastically embraced the integration project. Here boys and girls with a disability confront and train with able-bodied boys and girls in five Paralympic disciplines. A total immersion of integration through sport.
The second year of the Bebe Vio Academy begins. What are the latest news?
“We are starting the new season of the Academy and we are very happy. I saw the” new “children warming up on the first day. They are all very excited. We have kept some of the boys who were already there last year and who will help us. to teach something to those who have just arrived and are now starting courses, this to throw them immediately into the most complete integration. Of course we also have other guys who help us, not only those of the Catholic University of Milan, who do the internship . We have added young people who alternate between school and work. So we will have more energy and more enthusiasm to follow this new experience closely, we always add something new that enriches both those who come to attend the Academy and those who stay at the Academy. other part. There are those who work, there are those who play: all are happy “.
What experience was that of the Academy last year?
“It was very tiring. Very nice. Correct myself: it was amazing. In fact it was super satisfying to understand that it is not us who have to teach them how to integrate, but they are learning on their own. we have kept in a group some young people who had already taken the course last year. So they will be “tutors” for the newcomers “.
The sports have remained the same 5 as last year: so this too is a sign of continuity.
“That’s right: wheelchair fencing, wheelchair basketball, sitting volleyball, athletics and of course football. But I tell you already that I would like to add wheelchair rugby one day.”
It makes an impression on her to have an Academy, so young, that bears her name.
“As long as they say the Bva (the acronym, ed) is basically a normal thing: an acronym like any other. On the other hand, if you read Bebe Vio Academy in full, it makes me very strange. Yes, my name is there. And you realize: it’s very cool. Not so much for the name, but because you understand how many things there are behind this initiative. It was a dream I had as a child and now how many people are working to make this dream come true. “
A very full life that of Bebe Vio, always traveling, always on the move, always opening a new file, starting a new project: and the Academy in all this is an added responsibility. Don’t you sometimes feel tempted to flee?
“Actually for all the beautiful things we’re doing: I’m really fine. I enjoy it. I can’t wait to run from one side to the other. How do I reconcile everything? I use the agenda a lot, I live by looking at the calendar. more than a few help. Then every now and then dad bursts in with his warning: “Remember that you have to study, you have to graduate.” ‘other”.
By the way, how’s the studio going?
“Good. On May 15th I graduate. Uao!”.
The BVA is the first multi-year Italian academy of multi-sports activities for boys aged 6 to 18, which aims to promote sport to make it accessible to all, involving both boys and girls with and without physical disabilities. The same five disciplines will still be taught: football, athletics, sitting volleyball, basketball and wheelchair fencing. The BVA project (also supported this year by Nike) is managed by art4sport Onlus, the association founded by the will of the world fencing champion and her parents, which deals with studying, designing and financing limb prostheses and aids sports and everything that young athletes need to practice sports. Riccardo Cattaneo, Ephrem Bona, Chitra Ranieri and Sara Baldo, the Paralympic athlete Monica Contrafatto and the BVA coaches led by Giuseppe Cerqua participated in the inauguration event of the second year. Thanks to the collaboration with the Municipality, MilanoSport and Cus Milano, the activities take place from October to May at the Pala Iseo and Bicocca Stadium.
