Bearman, clear road
The sudden absence of Carlos Sainz at the 2024 Saudi Arabian Grand Prix, allowed a Oliver Bearman to fulfill the dream of competing in a race behind the wheel of Ferrari.
At 18 years, 10 months and one day, the Englishman was the youngest driver to enter the cockpit of a Prancing Horse car in Formula 1.
And he didn’t disfigure at all, given that he qualified 11th (less than a second from Leclerc’s time, despite having only lapped with the SF-24 in PL3) and finished the race in 7th place.
In the weeks following the Jeddah race it then seemed increasingly clear that Haas had chosen the young Briton for the seat vacated by Nico Hulkenberg, who accepted the Audi challenge.
The figures of the contract
The Daily Mail over the weekend in Montreal he explained that the autograph on the Haas contract has already arrived: “The 19-year-old from Essex secretly signed the deal which will make him the fourth British driver on the starting grid”. The English newspaper also revealed the details of the agreement: there is talk of a salary between 250 thousand and 300 thousand pounds (equal to 295 thousand and 354 thousand euros) and one annual duration with option for a second year. Journalist Jonathan McEvoy explained: “According to those in the know, Bearman could double his salary if his performances allow him to keep his place in the team.” Clearly there is no doubt that the young Briton will remain under Ferrari’s control, being part of the FDA.
