SOS Dolfijn reports that two or possibly even four beaked whales have been observed near Zandvoort. According to the foundation, this is ‘disturbing’, because it concerns deep-sea animals that do not survive well in the North Sea.
After the group of bathers was able to turn the animal towards the sea, the rescue brigade in Zandvoort ‘monitored the area closely and kept as many recreational vessels at a distance as possible,’ according to the foundation. SOS Dolfijn has sent a team of rescuers. “Should the animals be observed again, the team will try to prevent a stranding.” People are asked not to approach the animals themselves, but to call SOS Dolphin immediately.
The rescue brigade says that the beaked whales were last seen around 4.45 pm. The hope is that they have chosen ‘the seas’. According to a spokesperson for the rescue brigade, an attempt was also made to guide the animals to deeper water with a water scooter. He had the idea that the beaked whales were very curious and came to look at the boats.
