BRASÍLIA Nov 19 (Reuters) – The president of the Central Bank, Roberto Campos Neto, said on Friday that the monetary authority should revise its projection for economic activity in 2022 downwards, after disclosing in September that it expected growth of 2.1 %.
In a lecture at the Meeting News, organized by the Parlatório Group, he stated that the most recent increase in inflation in Brazil is more widespread, noting that there was a strong impact on prices due to the rise in food at first and, later, the shock of electricity and fuels.
The BC president acknowledged that the inflation expectation for 2022 is “a little off target”, with a recent acceleration of this movement, but he stressed that the BC has been acting by raising interest rates.
