The opinion of the debutant
“Bastianini’s overtaking of Martin? For me it shouldn’t be penalized, but I don’t know if I would say the same thing if I had been the one on the receiving end of it. It was the last lap, on a track where we’ve been saying for two weeks that you can’t overtake. In the past all the great riders have done maneuvers like that, Valentino Rossi did it with Sete Gibernau in 2005 in Jerez, Marc Marquez did it in 2013 on Jorge Lorenzo”. As always Peter Acosta he spoke very frankly about the episode that is dividing the MotoGP paddock between those who believe that Bastianini’s maneuver should not have been the subject of analysis by the Stewards (as happened) and those who are instead disconcerted that the official Ducati rider did not receive any penalty.
“Martin gave up by going very long, raising his arm and then turning very slowly – added Acosta – so a possible 3 or 5 second penalty for Bastianini would not have made a difference“Only the ‘drop position’, or the obligation to give up the position, would have given the victory back to Martin, but no one protested or filed a complaint with the Commissioners.
Pedro Acosta tried once again to throw caution to the wind trying to chase Bagnaia, but he crashed at Misano-1 while he was in fourth position. The GasGas rider pointed out the front tire temperature as the problem that ‘favored’ the slide, an inconvenience that occurred on the starting grid: “The changes we made to the bike since Saturday worked. We were able to follow Pecco’s pace. Unfortunately we had a broken generator on the grid and so the tyres were coldI’m not saying it was only the fault of this unexpected event, because I did ten laps before crashing, but in any case I was riding with colder tyres than I should have”.
