Basilicata elections: voting today and tomorrow until 3pm
Today and tomorrow we will vote in Basilicata for the regional elections. The polling stations will be open today, Sunday 21 April from 7am to 11pm and tomorrow, Monday 22 April from 7am to 3pm.
The voter must express a preference within the chosen list and vote for the Presidential candidate on a single ballot. The candidate with the most votes will win. You can vote for one of the provincial lists by drawing a mark in the corresponding rectangle or by writing the surname or first and last name of one of the candidates on the same list. The vote expressed for a provincial list is attributed to the candidate President of the list or coalition to which it is connected.
The vote expressed only for the Presidential candidate is attributed to the President himself. It is not possible to vote for candidates from different lists (split voting), as the vote would be considered invalid. It is possible to express a double gender preference (a male candidate and a female candidate): in case of double preference with the same gender, the vote considered valid will only be the one cast first. However, each sex cannot exceed 60% representation for each list.
The candidates are the outgoing president, Vito Bardi, supported by the centre-right coalition composed of Forza Italia, Fratelli d'Italia, Lega, UdC-Christian Democracy, Noi moderates. Azione, Italia Viva, Orgoglio Lucano and the civic list La Vera Basilicata also supported him. Bardi has been the president of the Basilicata Region since 16 April 2019. He was born in Potenza on 18 September 1951. Formerly deputy general commander of the Guardia di Finanza, he was indicated by Forza Italia as a unitary candidate of the centre-right.
On the centre-left front, the candidate is Piero Marrese, president of the province of Matera, supported by: Democratic Party, 5 Star Movement, Green-Left Alliance, and also by the Basilicata Unita and Basilicata Casa Comune lists. The latter refers to the entrepreneur Angelo Chiorazzo, who initially should have been a candidate, but then withdrew from the race. Finally, the third candidate is Eustachio Madnessjournalist from Matera supported by Volt.
The publication of polls, as is known, is strictly prohibited but in the face of Centre-right and there is a lot of optimism about the outgoing Governor Bardi. Bardi, a member of Forza Italia, is convinced that he will be able to be reconfirmed by exceeding 50% of the votes. These are obviously just feelings but the optimism in all the majority parties is very strong. The Centre-left, which with difficulty found an agreement between the Pd and M55, hopes for a recovery at the last minute even if the pessimism is palpable. We will see the results on Monday afternoon, these are just the sentiments among the main parties regarding the regional elections in Basilicata.
