Not just Madrid
Spain is crazy for Carlos Sainz and the Barcelona circuit – despite the upcoming advent of the Madrid GP starting from the 2026 season – does not want to give up the possibility of still host Formula 1 on its track. When the announcement arrived of the introduction of the city track in the Spanish capital into the GP programme, it was taken for granted that that event would replace the Catalan one. Stefano Domenicaliboss of the Circus, had however opened the doors to one possible coexistence of the two races – after all, both are currently under contract for at least 2026 – and the owners of the Circuit de Catalunya have taken the Italian manager's words literally.
New structures, old passion
As we told you in recent weeks the track which is located about 32 km from the center of Barcelona is in fact undergoing a significant 'restyling' aimed at improving the conditions of main infrastructures. The plan is to build a very high-level facility that will encourage Formula 1 not to migrate elsewhere after 2026. Roger TorrentMinister of Economy and Labor of Catalonia, who also holds the role of president of the Circuit de Catalunya, is working precisely towards this objective, as he also explained to the local broadcaster TV3: talks with Formula 1 in this sense are well underway and they continue to move forward.
F1 objective, beyond 2026
“We have made a very important investment to adapt it to the 21st century and transform it into the best permanent circuit in the world – explained Torrent – the renewal for five years, until 2026, allowed us to tackle a strategic plan and renewal of the structures. We still have at least three Grands Prix to compete and we are convinced that next June's will be the best in the history of the circuit.”. Both Formula 1 and MotoGP are “happy with the involvement of Catalonia and Barcelona in the holding of their Grands Prix“Torrent added.
